When the holidays roll around, many of us jump straight into spring cleaning mode. It can quickly become overwhelming, with the amount of tasks you want to complete before the holidays start seeming endless. However, it really doesn’t have to be a stressful experience, and if you organize yourself properly, it can even be a fruitful and fun process. Here’s how to get your house in order in time for the holidays.
Time for a deep clean
We all put off doing some serious deep cleaning, and holiday cleaning, especially if you’re expecting guests, can be the perfect opportunity for it. Take this as the time to clean all those neglected places in your home. If you really despise cleaning or just can’t find the time to do it yourself, consider hiring help for this time of year, even if you don’t usually hire professional cleaners.
Rearrange and decorate
You’d be surprised how rearranging your furniture can have a major impact on your home’s interior design. You can try different settings until you find what works for you. Now for the fun part: time to add some festive decorations! You can be as minimalistic or as overboard as you like.
Do things in advance
Try to plan everything you need to do and then space it all out. This helps avoid getting overwhelmed and, even worse, running out of time. If you program a few fragments at once, you will finish exactly as planned. For things that can be done ahead of time, definitely do them, that way you can test things off your list and see how they get smaller as the holidays approach, instead of going into the holiday season with anxiety to do everything.
Keep an inventory of things
This is especially true if you’re hosting: make sure you have enough essentials like toilet paper, napkins and drinks. When the holidays roll around, no one wants to run around to find the store that’s open that day. Making sure you have all the basics down ahead of time eliminates this completely and can help you feel confident knowing you have all the basics covered.
Post cleaning of guests
If you end up having guests over, there are a few ways to help make cleanup a little easier. Clear the table and clear them as soon as possible. No one likes to deal with smelly food drying on their plates days after a dinner, and you’ll be so thankful you took care of it right away. Put the leftovers away immediately and then quickly disinfect your bathroom. You can take care of other things later, but if you do these two things, you’ll feel a lot better right away.
